Meeting Called to Order

President Ross called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m.
The Pledge was led by Marty.
Herman gave an invocation, pleading for strength to endure!
Brendan led us in the Four Way Test.
We sang the old favorite "God Bless America".
Jeff gave us a bit of humor.

Visiting Rotarians: George Leap joined us again and formally asked to transfer to our club from his old club in American Samoa. Welcome another member!

Guests of Rotarians: Vicki Halstead, Chris (guest of Ross), Hans Bruhner (Lori's Husband)

Induction! Lori Bruhner was inducted into the club and presented with a membership certificate. Daniela was presented with a certificate as well for her induction the previous week. Better late than never!

Announcements: Plaza Concert this Thursday!
Ross announced he would like to add 10 new members during his year. We're off to a great start!

Happy Bucks: Mike Nicholls contributed $1 to plug St. Colman's Guild lunch in Cazadero.
Mike Torr contributed $2 for his daughters' upcoming birthdays.

Fines: Ross was fined $2 for wearing his hat during the pledge.
Marty was initially fined $10 for stealing President Ross' gavel (he looked guilty), but was given a reprieve when Donna owned up. She was fined $10.
Brendan was fined $5 for a bit of backyard arson.
Herman J. was fined $2 for no badge, then a further $2 for speaking out of turn.
Knud was also fined $2 for uncharacteristically speaking out of turn.
Ed was fined $5 for the 7th anniversary of his Rotary induction.
Mike Torr was fined $2 for being late and a further $5 for his upcoming birthday (he has plans to be elsewhere next week!)

Raffle: Mike Nicholls had the winning ticket, but alas, he drew the 7 of hearts from the deck.

Program: Paulette Hall from Community Family Service Agency (previously known as West County Community Services) spoke to us about the United Way subsidized program to help low income families file their taxes and claim their refunds. "Earn It, Keep It, Save It" is their motto. Families with a household income under $50,000 can take part in the program. They are on the lookout for volunteers who can help with tax preparation, screening of applicants, and Spanish speakers who can translate when needed. CFSA is not able to run the program this year on the funds the United Way provides, but they are still advertising the program. Currently, River to Coast Children's Services is the only agency in the West County conducting the program.

The Four Way Test

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build good will and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

1st: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

2nd: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

3rd: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

4th: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
